Voyage Terminated In the Wake of Fatal Incident of Elderly Lady Stranded on Tropical Isle

One two-month voyage circling the Land Down Under is being halted days after the fatal incident of an elderly woman who was left behind by the vessel on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but separated from the group for a rest. The liner left without her and went back later that day after the crew realised the woman was missing.

A major rescue mission located her person the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the incident, alongside investigators and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer announced that passengers and crew on the ship were told that the remainder of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and prior mechanical issues".

In a statement, he further stated that travelers would be given a full refund, and said the operator was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also released an updated announcement, and said they had "provided a notice to the Commander" banning any further travelers from entering the liner.

The liner initially left the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the expedition at the time of the elderly woman's death. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Guests on the ship - who usually pay substantial amounts of currency to join the cruise - were transported there for a shore visit with the possibility of trekking or snorkelling.

Family Reaction

The child of the victim said that her family was "shocked and grieved that the liner left Lizard Island after an scheduled excursion without my parent".

In her statement, she portrayed her mum as an "active 80-year-old" who was a affiliate of a hiking organization.

"From the little information we have been told, it seems that there was a lapse of care and ordinary reasoning," she said.

She added that she hoped the investigation would be able to determine what "the company should have performed that might have protected Mother's being".
