The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on the Manager
Spurs supporters who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "they can't be real Spurs supporters" by manager Frank.
Spurs conceded two goals in the first initial moments to lose 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th top-flight at home loss of the year.
But the primary talking point was the visitors' second goal when the keeper gave away possession far beyond his box.
The goalkeeper ventured out to deal with a long ball and took the ball near the touchline.
However, rather than kicking it out of play, the Italian spun and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.
King passed the ball off to Wales midfielder Wilson, who curled a shot into the goal from the sideline recorded at 36.6 yards.
Moments afterwards when the ball went to Vicario again, a number of Spurs supporters booed him.
Spurs were jeered off at the interval, with the side 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.
One of those jeering sessions really irritated the manager.
"I heard a few of our supporters apparently booed the incident and booed after, which, in my view is totally unjustifiable," the Dane commented about the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"[They] cannot be real Tottenham fans that do that. Alright jeering following the match, no problem, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are behind each other going forward."
Tete had given Fulham a fourth-minute lead prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Spurs in an improved second period showing.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Joe Hart remarked that the second score was "completely preventable".
"I certainly understand the supporters' frustration," Hart continued. "I am aware the part the keeper is performing. He is a great team player, he is a real figure in the locker room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"He was deeply implicated in what turned out to be the winning score."
Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Vicario After the Match
Italy international the keeper is in his third season with Tottenham.
The 29-year-old said after the game that he had to take the feedback.
"The second score was a error of my own, I take responsibility for it," he said.
"My aim was to clear the ball far and I just struck the ball in a poor manner. It was an even bigger mountain to overcome."
He said receiving jeers "comes with football".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team can't be influenced by the situation in the stands. Supporters have the right to do as they see fit.
"It's on us to remain more composed, to concentrate on ourselves. We are lacking in composure and calmness to reverse results. This match is a bad loss and it's hard to take."
In spite of the keeper's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Harry Wilson to convert.
In fact it was the next longest-range top division goal of the season – after Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which interestingly too occurred on the same day.
The goalscorer said he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.
Ten seconds passed between the keeper coming out of his area and the midfielder striking – which was 5 seconds following the clearance.
"I felt like the keeper was away from the box for ages," he said.
"It amazed me none of the back four returned to the goal line. When none of them covered the goal, my eyes sparked a bit.
"Udogie fell as well, which gave me a bit of extra opportunity. After that it was solely about trying to make the right contact and get it towards goal. I had a positive feeling, the moment it came off my boot, that it was heading in."
Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - the Manager
Although Vicario's error led headlines, this was an all-round bad performance for Tottenham to extend their home ground struggles.
The match was their 10th home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint team record along with nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.
They still have home fixtures against Frank's old side the Bees and title holders Liverpool to play before the close of the season.
Just a single of those victories have come after the manager took over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer.
"If you are behind 2-0 following six minutes, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated the boss.
"When you're in a poor run, everything seems to go against you too – the first was a redirected attempt, the next is a error from Vic.
"The outcome leaves us in a position where we have suffered another game. Each fixture has a unique narrative, this game we lost in the first six minutes.
"We simply need to keep working. The later period was significantly improved and hopefully something we can utilize to learn."
Spurs have been defeated in four consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.
And they are averaging nine point five shots and three point two shots on target per match in the division – their poorest rates on file in a single season (since at least 2003-04).
Ex- Cottagers midfield player Murphy stated that Frank has to ride the storm.
"He's got accept the criticism," the pundit said. "He's accepted a high profile job at a major team with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that accompanies that.
"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
