Following the latest cost hike for Game Pass Ultimate, the earlier commotion has subsided. Although it may not be considered the top deal in gaming anymore, the platform has welcomed several big-name day-one releases recently, including Ninja Gaiden 4 and The Outer Worlds 2. Those titles only enhance a vast library of hundreds games ideal for weekend-long marathon sessions.
Our current recommendations feature a cathartic action game, an prize-winning independent masterpiece, and a essential HD-2D RPG.
Resistance: Sniper Elite
Every so often, everyone needs a bit of catharsis. For 20 years, the Sniper Elite series has delivered precisely that. Rebellion Developments' enduring shooter series offers players ultraviolent mayhem against enemy forces. Recently, Rebellion launched Sniper Elite: Resistance, a well-timed addition to the franchise. While it doesn't revolutionize the gameplay, Resistance remains a polished serving of simulation World War II open environments packed with enemy objectives. The sniping is as visceral and gratifying as ever, featuring the game's trademark killcam showing every bullet's effect in graphic, explicit detail. It's a bloody thrill for every peace-lover wanting to let off steam in the safety of a virtual world.
Resist 1000x
1000xResist presents an award-winning narrative exploring post-pandemic life, family trauma, and much more. It approaches these themes through a sci-fi lens; you assume the role of Watcher, one of several clones of Iris, the only survivor of a global outbreak that eradicated humanity. Watcher and her fellow clones explore Iris's memories from the time Earth was beset by that horrific plague, along with experiences of her education and home life, both of which were easy for a teenager. Watcher discovers Iris is not all that she seems, and the plot develops from there. Should all that intrigue isn't enough to grab your interest, the game does start with a killing. Is there a more gripping opening than that?
Octopath Traveler II
Yes, finishing a gazillion-hour RPG in only over a week is a challenging task, but if any game deserving attempting the effort for, it's Octopath Traveler 2. Square Enix's HD-2D gem is leaving Game Pass at the end of November (along with the first game, which is also included). But, with a break in the middle, at least for players in the States, it's technically doable. Octopath Traveler 2 features 8 protagonists, each embodying a different story style. You'll find a procedural story about a priest investigating the murder of his church's head priest. A trader aiming to solve destitution through the power of commerce headlines a western-themed narrative. Additionally, there's a mystery about an herbalist with memory loss (since every good RPGs require a hero with an unknown background, naturally). A few of these plots intertwine in surprising, fascinating ways, as you play through a stunning 19th-century themed setting. And the battle system is superb — stat-focused gameplay distilled to its purest form.
