The former Liverpool manager says rejoining to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.

The German coach, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club is something that could happen. Klopp, following a hugely successful near-decade reign that included continental glory and the Premier League crown in 30 years, has since taken on positions overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.

Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks

They secured the league title last season, though countless followers who revere Klopp would embrace the possibility that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he told the podcast host: “I declared I will never coach any other side within the country. Therefore should it be the Reds...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”

“At 58 years old, that means I could make the decision down the line, I don’t know. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I can just see how things unfold.”

Conditions for a Comeback

When asked about the specific conditions must arise to tempt his return to the touchline, he confessed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip media briefings multiple times weekly or constant media duties each week.

“The locker room isn't missed per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the players enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games thus frequently great spirits at the club. I still have Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears for example.”

Praise for His Successor

He spoke highly for his successor, acknowledging his role for the tweaks which secured the championship in the previous season. The team has suffered four in a row across various tournaments post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the suggestion it could be the start of a downward turn.

“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, excellent performer. It’s a really good well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”

Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota

Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and its impact for the team. The Portugal international died tragically in a road accident with his brother this past summer.

“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the team environment absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A profound tragedy for all the boys also. Not a single person might employ it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that on a personal level is difficult. Overwhelming.”
