American performer Pat Finn, who featured in iconic television series including Friends, Seinfeld and "The Middle", has succumbed aged 60.

The comedic improv actor succumbed at his home in LA this Monday following treatment for a cancer diagnosis beginning in 2022, per reports.

"Pat Finn considered no one a stranger - just potential friends he didn't know yet," his loved ones stated in a statement.

They added that he had "experienced life to the fullest - with joy and exuberance".

An Extensive Career on Screen

Finn's first television role was on the George Wendt Show in 1995, where he appeared as the lead character's sibling.

He was also seen in a recurring role on "Murphy Brown" between 1995 and 1997.

He appeared as a party host named Joe Mayo in the show Seinfeld in the late 90s, portraying a party host known to delegate unpleasant chores to his guests.

Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, he made guest appearances on a variety of popular shows, like:

  • "King of Queens"
  • "Friends"
  • "That '70s Show"
  • House, M.D.

He was most recognized for his portrayal of Bill Norwood in The Middle, appearing throughout eight seasons from 2011 to 2018.

His film credits are It's Complicated and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups.

A Life in Improv

Beyond his television work, Finn was an improv performer and served as an educator at the University of Colorado, where he was a faculty member.

He was involved with a comedy group of six named "Beer Shark Mice".

"He coached, befriended and mentored many learners during his career and it's nearly impossible to find a person anywhere who has an unkind word to say about him," his family wrote.

Paying homage, peer Richard Kind remarked there was "not a more kind, gentle, or funny, down to earth person you could encounter".

"Always positive, assisting others to improve and be funnier. An excellent dad and person," he posted on social media.

Finn is remembered by his partner Donna, his three kids, and his parents and siblings.
