Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Humiliation

Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his future after a further heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got significant backing from above,” the coach commented.

“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”

He continued, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot revealed:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so let’s see.”

Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction

Slot lamented known failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.

“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period like this with performances this poor.”

He finished, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”

“Our aim is to get this team back to where it needs to be, prove once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the world.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
