Admittedly, it's Packed with Nonsense, Over-the-Top Hospitality and Self-Help Jargon. However, I Honestly Adore Meghan's Festive Episode.

No considering the season, it's always open season for commentary on the Meghan Markle's Netflix series, With Love, Meghan. Commentators, both professional and armchair, have rarely been so united as when eagerly tearing the program's earlier episodes to pieces. The common opinion seemed to be a more egregious regal scandal had never been witnessed than the now-infamous pretzel re-packaging incident.

Currently, as a festive rebel, she is back with a new offering with a "Christmas Special" (or a holiday episode). Yet now, things have shifted. The familiar ingredients viewers are accustomed to – meaningless jargon salads, intense hospitality – persist, but within the context of a Christmas special, it all clicks into place. The puzzle has come perfectly; it's a perfect snow storm.

At this stage, Meghan is like the oddball family member at Christmas celebrations everywhere – offering random tips, and delivering the periodic peculiar declaration. ("I love spinach!" … "A tradition has to have a beginning." … "A tree is part of my memory and love of the holiday season.") She's quite a personality, but her presence is familiar and unexpectedly soothing. And she seems pleased; she's causing a bit of damage.

She is aware her each tiny facial movement, utterance and glance will be analyzed and judged, but nonetheless looks unburdened and remarkably at ease.

Maybe this is the only time in history where that well-worn saying – "Ignore them, they're just jealous" – might be true. Since, in all honesty, each element in Meghan's Holiday Celebration truly is delightful. Admittedly, it's all cringily ultra-extra, nonsense and flamboyant – but doesn't that represent exactly what Christmas is about? And the talk she's talking might be absurd, but the life she leads appears to be impeccably styled.

Anything she turns her beautifully manicured, diamond-adorned hand to, she accomplishes with panache. Her cooking looks delicious, the wreath she creates is breathtaking, her presents are practically too exquisite to tear into. Nothing is mediocre or ugly – even the way she fastens her kitchen garment is artful and chic. She doesn't toss a meal in the oven, it "takes a twirl", and she folds wrapping paper like an paper-folding expert. She also seems to be thoroughly enjoying herself throughout. How could any hate-watcher not be convinced, filled with festive joy and left with a intense desire for handmade crackers or a crudites platter where greens is arranged in the likeness of a wreath?

Meghan had a career in acting for a living, obviously, but even so, after the degree of scrutiny she has weathered since she met Prince Harry, the love child of two legendary actresses would have difficulty behaving this genuinely. Her unwillingness to change or even soften her persona, even though it being so relentlessly, internationally ridiculed, is weirdly comforting. In our volatile world, here is one thing we can depend on: Meghan will be like this, no matter what. We will consistently know what to expect with her.

If you're still not buying her message, a point that will surely come as a comfort: you don't have to. There isn't national service these days, and were it to return, it would be unlikely to include watching With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. If, on the other hand, you willingly check it out and are consumed by longing about her idyllic Christmas, all is not lost either. Whether you're a duchess or a data administrator, no kid fully understands the time and energy their mum does in the holiday season. So you can take heart by envisioning Archie and Lilibet's faces when they open a handwritten message that says, 'I love you because you are brave,' from a handcrafted holiday countdown, in place of a chocolate.
